GOP Senator Lee defends war powers resolution

(9 Jan 2020) Republican Sen. Mike Lee says he’s lobbying Republican colleagues to support a war powers resolution being offered by Democrat Sen. Tim Kaine.
On Thursday, Lee criticized the briefing by Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and other top officials saying it was “probably the worst briefing I’ve seen, at least on a military issue," in the nine years he’s served in the Senate.
Lee said he’s concerned about future military actions and wants the US Congress to be involved in decisions authorizing the use of force.
He said he disagrees with other Republicans, like Sen. Lindsey Graham, who think the war powers act is unconstitutional.
"He’s got it exactly backwards," said Lee. "Look, I love Lindsey Graham. He’s my colleague. He’s the chairman of my committee, and I love working with him. I agree with him on a number of issues. He’s mistaken."
