(4 Oct 2019) Portuguese opposition leader Rui Rio made a final appeal to voters at on Friday, urging them the vote for change in Sunday’s general election.
Speaking at the final campaign rally in Lisbon, Rio said those who abstain from voting would be “reinforcing what already exists”, referring to the current Socialist Party government.
He said his Social Democratic Party was the only moderate party and pledged to return “balance and moderation.”
The latest polls suggest incumbent Portuguese Prime Minister Antonio Costa’s Socialists will come out on top, but without enough support to secure a majority in parliament.
