(18 Oct 2019) PIMENTA, COELHO SHOW AT SAO PAULO FASHION WEEK
Joao Pimenta and Gloria Coelho presented their new collection at Sao Paulo Fashion Week, Thursday (17 OCTOBER 2019)
Questioning the political moment in Brazil, Joao Pimenta focuses his collection on underrepresented groups.
“I’ve been trying to include a political message in my collections. We are facing a very complicated situation in Brazil right now, where artists, gays, women and indigenous seems to have no importance at all,” Pimenta said. “So now, I am focusing my collection on gay women. I’ve been working on gender issues since 2009, but I had never focused on women, I was always looking for boys. So, at this time I developed a collection looking at these people, not saying that they need a specific fashion, but to look at them and make them visible.”
Gloria Coelho mixed elements from the ’60s to the 2000’s with mystical creatures from a book written by 10 year-old Ricardo Valle, “Necroromance and the Conquest of Dragon Planet.”
Sao Paulo Fashion Week concludes Friday (18 OCTOBER 2019).
