(3 Nov 2019) Thousands of people took part in a rally in central Bucharest on Sunday protesting against deforestation in Romania.
People dressed in animal costumes and held banners that condemned the illegal logging of trees.
According to the Executive Director for Greenpeace Romania, Valentin Salageanu, Romania cuts down 18 million cubic metres (636 million cubic feet) of wood every year while another 20 million is illegal taken out of the forests.
Protesters are also demanded more protection for Romanian rangers after two of them were killed in the last two months while trying to protect the forests from illegal logging.
